My boyfriend and I both work full time but our schedules tend to only overlap by a few hours, which means Elsa is not left home alone too often. Currently, though, we are both looking for new jobs and I’m worried we will end up having to leave the pup alone for up to 8 hours, and…well…I’d rather not. So I’m wondering what you guys do for a living that allows you to devote a significant amount of time to your dog. Or, if your dog is home alone all day, how do you keep him entertained?
I go to doggie daycare! Mine is cage-free, supervised play… I love it and come home exhausted.
How ’bout a doggy sitter? You can enlist friends or family to keep her for a few hours on those long days. If you can’t leave her anywhere, how ’bout a dog walker to come and take her out to potty? Also invest in plenty of treat dispensing and interactive toys to occupy her mind. I’m not a fan of doggy day care, cause there’s rarely enough supervision and I find the dogs are allowed to play way past their tolerance level. Just my opinion, but Cav’s are so sensitive they can easily get overwhelmed by such a crazy environment for that long. Of course a lot can be accomplished by a good long walk before you leave and some quality time training on a day off. I’m sure she’ll be ok. Our dogs are incredibly resilient!
doggie daycare is a great option if you find the right place. I actually interviewed to work at a few of them and some of the behind the scenes stuff is shady, but a couple I saw were so nice that I wish I could go there myself. There’s also expenses to consider. And a dog walker is a good idea too but the question I’m really posing here is what kind of job will allow ME to spend more time with my dog?
Well I don’t know about job opportunities in your area, but I became a dog trainer.LOL Maybe a dog walker/pet sitter would be a good option if you could take elsa with you. Other than that I don’t know. Sorry! I got to be a stay at home dog mom for so long that going back to work was certainly a worry for me to be leaving my pups. They have coped wonderfully, but I’m glad they have each other.:)) Hope something works out for you!
Just wanted to let you know you won an award on my blog tonight! You are one of the newest blogs we follow and always enjoy new posts, especially if there’s pictures!:))
When my friend can’t look after my cavalier, I take him to a lovely lady who looks after him in her home. She only has one or two other dogs there, which is good. I used to take him for a couple of afternoons a week at a regular daycare, but, in the long run, I felt it was too overwhelming for him. He’s a people dog…not a dog-dog, if you know what I mean. He doesn’t like to romp around with a bunch of dogs he doesn’t know. You always have to be careful who you leave your dog with. It can be stressful. I can’t leave him alone at home because he has isolation anxiety. It can be a dilemma.
